"In Feb. 1995, I founded a cross stitch club in my community (Eldersburg MD) and we have been meeting twice a month for cross stitching and friendly conversation. We named our group "Count Your Stitches", and we meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 7 PM at Springfield State Hospital, Administration Building, Sykesville, MD. We are a very informal fun group. Some of our activities include having a Christmas cross stitch gift exchange and pot luck dinner, maintaining a cross stitch library, and enjoying each other's company while working on our individual current project. Our group is open to all cross stitchers and we post notices of upcoming meetings in the Carroll County Times and The Baltimore Sun. Interested stitchers can contact us at stitchme@juno.com."-- Dorothy Harris

"We are a small guild but have high hopes. We had R & R Reproductions in Nov 1996 and had a blast. Hoping to have more national teachers. We are looking for sampler lovers in the St. Louis area to come and join us."
Those of us who are now communicating on this project are gathering our kits, considering possible fabric and fiber changes, and sending bio info to be shared by the group. We will begin stitching in January, and I will propose a stitching schedule at that time.
Anyone interested in joining this group may contact me at lindarcox@aol.com and I will add your name to the list. -- Linda

"Here in France we have a group of 40.000 members called "France point de croix". A magazine is edited specially for the members, and we take notice of expositions, new kits... Also locally in the north of France is a group called "Croix, Fil & cie..." (Cross, threads & co...) We are 104 and meet twice a month in the afternoon, once a month in the evening and once a month on saturday morning. We're editing a newspaper and every member is contributing, and next april we'll be on a trip to the London Needlecraft Fair, 150 miles from Lille where the group is meeting. We're also planning an exposition of fruits & flowers related samplers in the beginning of May . I hope we'll be seeing some of you american stitchers over here because we're hoping to put all Europe to cross-stitch (who said "wild dream!"?)

We have had events like New Project night where fabric was checked at the door to make sure you hadn't started yet, Finishing Night both to finish stitching a project and to learn how to finish a completed project that you might want to turn into a pillow or something, Potluck dinner night, Millenium events (many of us are working on a sampler for 2000), Tea and Dessert events, Pizza and Chocolate parties, Shopping events, and of course, just plain stitching nights. We also sometimes have unplanned Stitching Sundays where anyone is welcome to come by during certain hours and just stitch with others.
There are no fees. Usually I ask for everyone to either bring a dish or some munchies and many times we go to dinner afterwards (for those who want to). It's a varied group and people come from all walks of life. I think our youngest is about 11 and the oldest in their 60s.
It's a great bunch and many close friendships have been forged during the hours stitching together. To become a MetroStitcher, all you have to do is email me (chellyc@aol.com) and I'll put you on the mailing list." -- Chelly

In May of 1999 we will be visiting with Marian Soss in Burlingame, CA to view her incrediable sampler collection. "The Orange Coast Sampler Guild in Southern California meets one Monday a month from January through October. This Guild is much the same as the Examplary Needle Guild in Buffalo, NY. We host workshops, stitch-ins, lectures and we also have special events where we hire professional designer/teachers to present original programs for our Guild. We have an excellent program chairman, Nita Brock, who manages to get designers like C.A. Wells, Merry Cox and Catherine Theron to bring their knowledge and creativity to us. If anyone is interested, write: OCSG, 1430 N. Antoinette Drive, LaHabra, CA 90631."
Some people may find this list a little more reliable than reading RCTN for keeping up to date with local news.

As an outgrowth of our weekly get togethers we have started a new Sampler Guild. The Sampler Band held its first meeting at the historic Riddick's Folly home in Suffolk, VA. Our next meeting is Dec.1,1996. Subsequent meetings will be held every other month on the first Sunday. Our dues are $10 a year. Any money left in the treasury at the end of the year will be donated to Riddick's Folly. We have only had one meeting so far, but lots has been planned....field trips, one major teacher a year, individually designed name tags, project to benefit the historic home, community awareness programs and much more. We are actively seeking members in the southside Virginia area that have a true interest in Needlework. We hope to have our own website soon! For further information email kbheins@juno.com
